SUMMARY OF RESEARCH INTERESTS/EXPERTISE:
Expertise in the spectroscopic, collisional, chemical, transport
and radiative processes in
the Earth's atmosphere relevant to stratospheric ozone, aurora, airglow
and the ionosphere. Synergistic expertise in the chemistry and
the
dynamical processes in (interstellar) molecular clouds and star forming
regions.
These expertise are used
in major research programs such as:
Understanding the origin and evolution of minor and trace species in the Earth and planetary atmospheres.
Solar-terrestrial effects on the atmosphere and the ionosphere,
including effects of solar variability on the climate.
Molecular diagnostics of interstellar clouds, shocks and winds from
star
formation, and circumstellar shells.
Prediction and detection of the effects of normal peaceful
and abnormal and violent human
activities (e.g., effects on the UV-shield provided by ozone, climate
change, nuclear winter)
Phenomenological and modeling studies of the physical processes and
the
atmospheric chemistry relevant to the determinations
of optical signatures of strategic and tactical targets.
